1. Place a L’il Bummer’s Wet Bag into your diaper pail (any container can be used with a lid), place used diaper in pail.
* Putting baking soda into the Wet Bag will help to reduce odours.
2. When you’re ready to wash your diapers take the Wet Bag out of the pail and take it to the laundry machine. Once at the laundry machine open the Wet bag and empty diapers into the wash machine then place the empty wet bag in to the laundry machine.
3. Run a pre-rinse/short cycle with cold water.
4. Wash the diapers with hot water on a full cycle, using ¼ of the regular amount recommended by the detergent manufacture. (Avoid bleach as this can damage your diapers. Avoid the use of fabric softeners as this will affect the absorbency of your diapers).
5. Put 1/3 cup of white vinegar into a bounty ball or in during the final rinse to reduce the buildup of yeast and help prevent diaper rash.
6. Washed diapers can be either hung to dry on a line or dried in the dryer (medium heat recommended).
Prior to using your diapers wash them a few times in hot water with a small amount of mild detergent to help increase absorbency. Dry diapers between each wash cycle.
Do not use fabric softeners or dryer sheets. These leave a residue on the diaper which will affect the absorbency.
Hanging the diapers out on a clothesline in the sun will bleach out stains and will help to increase the absorbency. This is also an environmentally friendly way to help care for your diapers. If you wish to soften the hung diapers place them in the dryer for a few minutes.
Bleach is not recommended with diapers that have PUL (polyurethane laminate).
Many things can cause diaper rash one. Try changing the baby’s diaper more frequently, if the problem persists; put the diapers through an additional final rinse cycle and add a cup of white vinegar.
The use of disposable liners can aid in simplifying the clean-up for soiled diapers. The disposable liners can be placed in the diaper and then flushed down the toilet after use.
The use of creams to help prevent diaper rash may cause the diaper to become water repellent. Try using disposable liners to reduce the residue from building up on the diapers.
Clean your diaper pail regularly with warm soapy water or vinegar.
